[fixed] Bought a rented out house -> seized control of its storage, and rental was cancelled

I bought the house being rented by ZyrVox, and now I own the 4 steaks that were in it, and the rental was cancelled :(

Ack, thats no good is it (though oddly how it has been implemented since 2002!) .. I imagine zyrv is furious! :/

Anyone got any preferences or ideas on how best to handle it?

The simplest version to implement would be that the renter is dismissed when the new owner takes over, but the renter retains their 'in home' status until next login and all the house stocks (and investment) are transferred to their inventory.

Giving the owner an option on whether to retain the tenant or not would probably be handy, but does start complicating things somewhat.

Having an option and a notice period for the tenant I guess would be most realistic but does start getting messy - It seems to me that the new owner would feel aggrieved if they didn't get to use their new purchase immediately.

Any thoughts?

The first suggestion sounds practical..

Long term it would be nice to be able to set different rates that include contract guarantee or not.

IE
12d/mo at will (no contract)
15d/mo 12 month guarantee

New owner has to honor contract.

When renter is evicted how will they move large inventory?

First option is implemented now (and zyrv has some compensation if he returns :] ), along with some extra messaging to the tenant to make it clear what happened.

They take all the items from the stores, even if that breaks the inventory capacity limit. (They just won't be able to add any new items till they've found a new place to store their stuff or discarded some of it).

I will look adding a notice period later.

Looks like there might be a bug in the items being transferred back to the owner

I bought the house swabie was renting while he was online and his items remained in the house after purchase (over 100 items from memory)

P.s. sorry I had to run before finishing the transfers swabie, just about missed the train to work

ah, my bad.. the code was covered by a clause that meant it only transferred the items out if there was investment in the building - I'm guessing there was none? Fix for that will be in next server update.

I had a house that was for sale (next to Zyr's place) and had my stuff in it. Is it intended behavior that the house comes with the stuff inside if someone buys it? (I did not intend to give my stocks to a potential buyer before moving out!)

Also, I see HyperbolicHubris owns the home now, but I don't think I received the money? Possible I'm mistaken, but don't recall seeing an extra 30s in my wallet
