Suggestion: Food stats

Different types of food have different stats, but those stats are not readily available. We, as a community, could source this info and make a wiki, etc. but in practice, what I've anecdotally seen is most people just buy the cheapest food available, even if at poor nutritional value.

Would be nice to have a system to see some basic stats for food before buying. In the real world we can look at food before purchasing (most of the time) and know the portion size, etc. and have a general understanding if it will make me full or not (other health effects may be less obvious).

In Lanbury we don't currently have a way of knowing if I am buying a 4oz steak or a 1lb steak, or a slice of bread or a loaf.... And if said steak is more "filling" than bread, etc. (Though one may be able to deduce a steak might generally provide more calories then bread) A simple system that provides either a point value or general guidance (v.low, low, medium, high, v.high) on how much health you will regain would be nice. Any hidden stats (like increasing mortality rate, etc.) could remain hidden.

Speaking of hidden stats, I've gathered some foods are more "healthy" than others. Am I correct to assume that when you eat less healthy foods they increase your satiety, but secretly take some time off your maximum life span? (So if i eat burgers all day I'll feel "full" but I'm taking years off my life.) I love this concept, but it would be nice if there was some general guidance for the health "rules" in the game. (I get that offal isnt great!) Maybe not going so far as showing how many years you are taking off your life, but providing the general concept in-game of "good health" in this world. In the real world nutrition research has changed drastically over the years and where high fat used to be "bad" carbs "good", etc. there are now many more nuances and different prevailing schools of thought... Would be nice to have an idea what constitutes "healthy" on this planet.

You could even take these stats further by having foods that were produced with pesticides, etc - or have gone rotten

You are correct. (And excellent use of the word 'satiety'. :] )

I'm still pondering this.. certainly I don't want to just expose *itemproperties (good memory, clem!), because.. well.. i dunno.. it takes some of the mystery out of it. But yes, i agree it appears a bit random without some indicator of the size of the product.
Perhaps though that is best left to experience, wikis, player guides and shared knowledge through whatever means. Perhaps I'm wrong, but I actually like that some aspects of the game are only really discovered in such ways.. mm..
